Your congregation has a story worth hearing. People not connected to church are hungry for good news.
Candace Buchbinder, ELCA public relations manager, shared these principles and more at a recent Alaska Synod Zoom workshop called “Telling our Stories in the World.” The workshop included tips for connecting with local media and ideas for digital storytelling. Jeffrey Roberts, ELCA social media manager, was the other presenter.
Some ideas from the workshop:
• Complete this sentence: “I love my church because….” The answer may be a story to share with media!
• Media outlets are looking for “feel good” stories. Reach out.
• By building relationships with media, you will be considered a trustworthy resource for future media articles/broadcasts.
• A photo and a caption can be a story! Use in your social media, newsletters, share with media.
• Churchwide has social media memes (and more) free to download here
• Make your own social media memes at canva.com (churches can get free “pro” account)
For more good ideas, check out the PowerPoint presentations and view the Zoom recording below.
