Called to Mission, Relationship, Empowerment and Abundant Living
At a special meeting on November 18, 2023, the Synod Council approved the Alaska Synod’s Guiding Principles. These principles grew out of a synod-wide process to seek how we, as a synod, see ourselves as people of God in this place.
This work began at the 2023 Synod Assembly by voting members working within their cluster groups. Over the next 6 months, it continued in our individual congregations across the whole synod. Ultimately over 70% of the synod’s 30 diverse congregations, including multiple churches from every cluster, shared their responses to the questions:
- What is God calling us to be as a Synod?
- What are the values and guiding principles of the Alaska Synod?
- What does the Alaska Synod look like when we are working at our very best?
If you were part of this process, please know you have the thanks of the Alaska Synod Council for your participation in this endeavor. We’re grateful for the time, energy, and commitment you’ve made to the wider church.
More than 70% of synod congregations participated in a synod vision and values exercise to identify who we are as a synod.
These guiding principles grew out of that feedback from across the synod. Concrete actions flow from each of the eight principles as they shape our work as a synod and our journey of following Jesus.
