What is coaching?
Coaching is an intentional relationship in which a trained coach uses powerful questions, strategic listening and accountability to uncover and utilize your strengths and insights to accomplish your goals. The coach is not an expert in the subject matter and does not set the agenda.
Coaching works! Got something you need to get done? Got a change you need to make? Need someone to journey alongside you? Try coaching!

Who can be coached?
Coaching is for anyone pursuing clarity and growth in life and ministry. Some people who may benefit from coaches include first call pastors, synod council leaders, congregational presidents and council members, people discerning a call to ministry, committee chairpersons, worship leaders, stewardship leaders, youth and family ministers, members of call committees, those doing outreach strategy and so many more. Both individual and group coaching are available. Alaska Synod coaches may have limited availability for those outside ELCA congregations, so please inquire! |
What is the commitment?
For best results, we recommend an initial commitment of 3-6 sessions with a coach, spaced in a way that works for both. Longer-term coaching is available too. Who are the Alaska Synod Coaches? All Alaska Synod coaches have a ELCA Level 1 training and have been trained by an International Coaching Federation certified coach trainer. Many coaches have taken what we call Level 2 training in the ELCA and have area specialties such as discipleship, stewardship, group coaching, grief coaching and more. |
How does it work and is there a fee?
You and your coach will meet for an initial conversation (no cost) to clarify expectations and see if you would make a good team. If so, you will sign a coaching covenant and begin sessions to work on what you want to work on. You talk 80% of the time and the coach steps in with clarifying and powerful questions.
Most coaches receive compensation for their work and can utilize a sliding fee scale. Congregations and individuals may also choose to share costs, or utilize continuing education funds. If you need a coach, we will work with you to make it happen!
