Ed Mjolsnes passed away on the evening of January 22, at the age of 85.
He had been a member at Central Lutheran in Anchorage since 1980. Ed and Sandy’s two adult children and their spouses were here with him throughout his last days. They are grateful to the many friends who came to visit, pray, sit, read and sing to Ed.
Ed was Central Lutheran's council president in both 1984 and 2010; and was a welcoming presence at fellowship events and worship.
He served several years on the ELCA Alaska Synod Council.
Please keep Arne and Greta in your prayers. They’ll be visiting with Pastor Mark Galbraith and announce memorial plans shortly.
Let us pray.
Almighty God, those who die in the Lord still live with you in joy and blessedness. We give you heartfelt thanks for the grace you have bestowed upon your servants who have finished their course in faith and now rest from their labors. May we, with Ed and all who have gone before us, have perfect fulfillment and joy in your eternal and everlasting glory; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Director for Evangelical Mission, Alaska Synod Position Description
The Director for Evangelical Mission (DEM) represents the ELCA through the Christian Community and Leadership Area (CCL) in the Alaska Synod and is responsible for the development of tools to support congregational vitality, which we define as, “Communities of Jesus that nurture new life-changing relationships with God, one another and the world.” The position also reflects the purposes, principles and commitments of the synod, CCL and the ELCA as a whole.
The (DEM) will collaborate and coordinate with Churchwide, synod and congregational leaders to develop strategies designed to help congregations engage their communities so that more people know the way of Jesus and discover community, justice and love.
