Consultation to Clergy was founded more than 50 years ago with the mission of providing pastoral counseling and other values-based therapeutic resources for those in ministry.
Over the years our focus has evolved. Currently, church workers who seek consultation with CTC do so primarily because of vocational concerns—work/workplace related issues, chronic conflict, discouragement, an uncertain vocational path, or, lack of clarity regarding their vision for ministry. The exception involves those who wish to proactively enhance their individual professional development through our process of Leadership-Focused Executive Coaching or Team Ministry Consulting. While we still regularly address mental health concerns, make interventions and provide referrals to other therapists, our primary focus is to provide vocational support services that enhance the vocational journey of those in ministry. Our unique purpose is to support the vocational effectiveness and well-being of those who serve in a wide variety of ministry contexts and who are doing so in a time of unrelenting change and complexity.
Consultation to Clergy was the collaborative dream of three Lutheran Judicatories in the late 1960’s, and we are still partnered with five Synods of the ELCA in the Northwest and the Northwest District of the LCMS.
“The mission of Consultation to Clergy is to support and enhance the unfolding vocational journey of leaders in ministry.”
We believe our calling is to provide specialized vocational support services for those who serve in various ministry capacities. We offer comprehensive vocational health and well-being resources, a safe venue to discern next steps along the vocational journey, and through our executive coaching process, an opportunity for ministry leaders to enhance their skill-sets, strengthen their relationships, deepen their capacity and clarify their objectives—all from a values-based perspective and with a deep understanding and appreciation of the systems in which our church-workers serve.
The Director for Consultation to Clergy is Laurin Vance. Laurin would love to connect by phone, online or in person. Please do not hesitate to invite him to your cluster meeting, text study or for a congregational visit. He is also available for personal consult.
