I. Course Description
The four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the earliest surviving accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus. This course will provide an overview of these texts, paying special attention to the distinctive portrait of Jesus that each gospel presents. The emphasis will be on equipping you to be a better reader of the fourfold Gospel witness that testifies to the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

II. Objectives
To help students:
    1. Gain a sense of the unique theology of each of the Gospels.
    2. Explore the historical and social background of the New Testament world.
    3. Articulate the similarities and differences among the various portraits of Jesus in the Gospels.

III. Required Texts
The New Interpreters Study Bible    Abingdon Press
Fortress Introduction to the Gospels by Mark Allan Powell

This course is open to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of the Gospels and to those interested in becoming a Synodically Authorized Minister.
