2022 ELCA Youth Leadership Summit
Adult Application Form

The 2022 ELCA Youth Leadership Summit is taking place November 3 – 6, 2022 at Carol Joy Holling Camp and Conference Center in Ashland, Nebraska. Each synod is invited to send two youth (grades 9-12), and one adult who is willing to be an active participant.
The theme for the 2022 Summit is "Beloved: No Matter What" and will focus on exploring and equipping young people to understand, recognize and live out what it means to be beloved and chosen children of God. The theme verse comes from Colossians 3:12, "Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience." (NRSV) Youth will be equipped with peer ministry skills that can be used for a lifetime. God’s love is expansive, inclusive and unconditional and because of that love we can not only love ourselves and we can reach out and love others no matter our differences.
The 2022 ELCA Youth Leadership Summit will equip youth leaders through Peer Ministry Leadership Training. Participants will learn to welcome and include others in all situations promoting diversity and acceptance. They will learn to share God’s love and grace through their daily connections, becoming aware of the hurts and needs of those around them while living out the Good Samaritan story. Through the peer ministry training the participants will learn how to be careful listeners, to guide healthy and purposeful conversations, to clarify concerns and values, to ask open-ended questions and make observations, and know when a situation is too large and how to ask for help. The youth and adults will be challenged to take home their learnings at the Summit to inspire action, teaching what they learned in their own synods, congregations, and communities.
Another priority of this event is to help these high school youth “look toward” their next faith community. We will have various ministries throughout the ELCA, camp staff, college ministries, young adult ministry and others to share the exciting opportunities within the church that await them.
All lodging, meals, programming, and a bus to and from the Omaha Airport are provided by a gracious grant from the ELCA. The Alaska Synod will provide the flights for the two youth and one adult and travel meals.
The Youth Leadership Summit is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and partners with the Christian Community/Leadership Mission Unit, the Faith Formation Team, the SYMBOL Network, the ELCA Youth Gathering, the 65 Synods across the United States, ELCA Disability Ministries, and ELCA Ethnic Specific Ministries.
The synod covers the airfare and the event will arrange transportation to and from the Omaha airport to the camp. Alaskans will need to arrive on Thursday afternoon no later than 3:30 pm to get to the camp in time for dinner.
