2018 ALASKA SYNOD ASSEMBLY

“Taikuu Agiyun. Thank you, Jesus. Thanks be to God.”
I thought of this praise after the election of bishop at this year’s Synod Assembly. I am pleased to share that Bishop Shelley Wickstrom was re-elected as bishop of the Alaska Synod for another six years. Needing a vote of 75% or greater on the first ballot, Shelley received 83% - a real testament to her faithful service over the past six years. It is also an affirmation that we, in the Alaska Synod, are grateful for her service and want her to continue serving us in that capacity.
The bishop election commiitee came well prepared for a full 5-ballot process.
They put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the process. It was a very seamless and straight forward election and I’d like to thank the committee for their work. Kudos to chair Pastor Amanda Kempthorne, Bill Babylon, Archie Kiyutelluk, Trina Anderson and Larry Graham.
Chris Boerger, ELCA Secretary was present to hold the bishop election, and spent many hours with the election committee, and myself, via teleconference and email in preparation. Our thanks to Secretary Boerger for making sure we stayed on track, and within the ELCA bishop election guidelines
Thank you also to the voting members from each of our congregations for making this election, and Assembly, a success.
“Taimunga - Amen”
